We watched The Curse of the Ninth, the penultimate episode for Inside No. 9 last night, and I have to say this final series has been cracking. This episode definitely pays homage to M.R. James, with Shearsmith and Pemberton's declaring to the former colleague Mark Gatiss that they can do horror too.

Saw Furiosa last week and really enjoyed it. More like Mad Max 2 and not as gonzo as Fury Road (no flamethrower-guitars this time).

I wasn't a huge fan of Fury Road originally. The action was good, but the story consisted of driving in one direction, then turning around and coming back, which I didn't find satisfying. Having now seen Furiosa though, I think Fury Road probably makes more sense - I shall have to watch it again.

Watched the first two episodes of The Acolyte tonight - it was excellent. It felt different and fresh, familiar and resonant.

Looking forward where this is going.

I have to agree. No matter what the trolls and the anti-Disney brigade have to say, I think it's a refreshing take on Star Wars.

Beautifully retro, meticulously period recreation of post war Japan and our favourite modern metaphor as monster. 9/10 from me.

The final series of Inside No. 9 drew to a close last night. It's been a wonderful ride over the last 10 years, and I wish they could have carried it on. However, I can see why they decided to bow out on top.

I love how they brought back many of the guest stars from over the last 9 series, and that it was set at a wrap party for the show, with everyone playing themselves. There was some funny moments with Robin Askwith and Mark Gatiss too. Wonderful stuff! I also loved how they finished it by doing an end credit sequence for the On the Buses parody Hold on Tight, the episode that never was.

Episode 5 of The Acolyte has to be one of the best episodes of Star Wars I've seen recently on Disney+.

That was quite the bloodbath! Ouch.

I guessed quite early on in the series that Qimir was Mae's Master. And no, he's not a Sith as he might think. He's actually a Knight of Ren, perhaps even being the original "Ren" and founder of the order. In the sequel trilogy, Kylo Ren (Ben) is leader of this order of Force users, but he took over from an individual who called himself "Ren". Now this "Ren" took his name and title when he found an old lightsabre and discovered knowledge about a past order called The Knights of Ren. He resurrected the order and turned it into a band of marauders. However, the original order and its origins are shrouded in mystery, and it would be cool if we explored that in The Acolyte.

Very very well plotted, written, produced and acted film. A very very good instalment of the franchise. Mocap is so good you can see through the CGI and "see" the actors' every nuance. Very very highly recommended, 8/10.

We’re enjoying season 2 of House of the Dragon. It’s remarkably grounded series despite the dragons as the ultimate weapons of war. At its core the story is about greed, vanity, misplaced duty, petty revenge, and failed relationships.

I've just got to the end of Judge Dee's Mystery and it was an absolute delight. Crime solving and martial arts in Tang Dynasty China. It's been really good fun watching a Chinese made mystery show that's completely different to the American crime shows I normally watch. Based on the ending there's a series 2 on the way, so I'm very excited about that.

This could very easily be a Pathfinder 2e game with an investigator, fighter and rogue as the three main characters, so it's been great inspiration for playing in the Tian Xia setting as well.

I'm 8 episodes in and it's indeed delightful.
Must watch more... I got distracted by Sweet Tooth season 3 and re-watching I, Claudius.

Yes it is superb. BBC costume drama at its finest. Awesome cast - Derek Jacobi, Sian Philips, John Hurt, Brian Blessed, Patrick Stewart, George Baker amongst others.
Made in the 70s so it had a budget of 50p which means there is no location filming - all done in studio sets.
The only thing that isn't good is the 'old age' make-up, as the cast go though the decades. Telly is much better at that these days.

I, Claudius is a televisual masterpiece. It has some of the best directing and camera work I've ever seen, and it was acted and recorded as if they were doing a play live. Some scenes are literally done in one take with a single camera! Even if it does look a little dated, it's still well worth a watch.

The books it is based on by Robert Graves (I Claudius and Claudius the God) are well worth a read too.
