What have you splurged on recently? (The Return)

I just got my Cyberpunk maps, they are lovely.

I never actually played many fantasy games (blame discovering Traveller and Douglas Adams 😀), but when I was first introduced to D&D in '77, I did draw lots of dungeon maps (usually secretly in music lessons).

I've been meaning to try a solo game for a while, but wanted something mechanical, rather than journaling, and Four Against Darkness kept coming up as a top recommendation. And drawing dungeons again peeked my interest. So took the plunge and got the PDF to try it out. If I take to it then I suspect a soft back copy will be on the cards at some point.

The graph paper? Well it was on a 3 for 2 offer 😀

I like 4AD and have quietly played it for some years.

Contingency second hand RPGs. A book to go with my PDF.

I've been wondering if 4AD Expanded offers enough over the original version to be worth upgrading, any opinions? (I just have the basic original rulebook.)

I've only seen the expanded edition, so it's hard for me to judge. It has 20 character classes and includes tables for Caverns and Fungal Grottos, which I think are additions (but I'm not sure).

This looks like it might be quite a good, short, comparative review -

OK, so new stuff: Many character classes, several options for awarding experience, starter adventures, fiendish foes, using it as an RPG; and I don't remember firearms, caves and grottoes, or tiers with die types above d6.

Tiers come into play with Four Against the Abyss and Four Against the Forsaken Depths, which cover character levels 5 and above.

There is some tidying up of the rules apparently, but if you already have a number of the supplementary books, then you might have some, if not nearly all, of the additional content. But don’t quote me on that as I’m still getting to grips with the basics.

I have to say I think I want to just buy that and read it. It's such a seminal part of the setting that has never been explored.

No, Isabella Treccani-Chinelli

On a quick skim, it's heavy on lore and lighter on campaign details. However, I'd take it just as a lore book, really fascinated by it.

The Empress Wave is in it.
It isn't explained except in terms of the impact.

I would be happier with a lore book. Some people have seen more and suggest there are bits of tech scattered lightly through it.
I think a campaign book will follow.

Yes, there’s lots of ships…

Pixel2Print A1 arrived - looks great. The typo on the thousands comma for two of the range bands niggles though. Under £20 in total.

The filler for my "The Core Expeditions" and "Vehicle Handbook 2026 Update" arrived. By filler, I mean the item that pushed me into the free shipping range (avoiding split shipping with two pre-ordered books). Roberts. A whole book on building Old Bob from the Black Hole.
