• The Tavern needs to be a safe place and comply with the law. In the UK the OSA requires us to know the age of our members and posters, and yet the UK Govt. has not provided a method to do this that is affordable to small voluntary BBS like ours. [reading] What have you read recently? (encore again)

I don't really rate Rebecca Yarros at all. She's not a patch on Leigh Bardugo - who nails the chosen one/romantasy genre.

Over the weekend I read the Anderson: Psi-Division trilogy of novels by Mitchell Scanlon. 2000AD’s top psychic judge takes on a plethora of demons, ghosts, serial killers, nonces and Russian gangsters. The novels date from the early-to-mid 2000s but have a similarly gritty feel to the Dredd film of 2012 with mayhem and gore aplenty. They do become repetitive after a while, but Scanlon gets Anderson’s character and the world of Mega City 1 bang on. I wouldn’t have minded if he’d done a couple more. Definitely the best of the 2000AD tie-in novels I've read.

I continue my efforts to kickstart my reading habit with Casino Royale by Ian Fleming. When my dad died I inherited his collection of books, which included a full set of Bond. I've never even considered reading a Bond book before but I'm glad I did. I rather enjoyed the quirky prose and the way the entire Royale concept was set up. I did find the pacing a little weird, as the third act (post famous torture scene) seemed a little drawn out and so incongruous that you knew something was going to happen!

I was wary coming in to the accusations of Bond being the patron saint of misogyny but part from one section where he absolutely goes off on Vesper in his head for getting kidnapped, it wasn't THAT bad.

Bond will return in Live and Let Die apparently. As will I, but my promise to myself is to jump.genres on this journey so who knows what's next?!
