[generic] What are you planning

What are you planning, but let's start by talking a bit about the worlds and places we are planning to visit. Less about the systems, the logistics, and a bit more about the destinations.

More Casting the Runes - found myself getting quite fascinated by that Edwardian occult milieu. I've written a scenario for it, and have ideas for a few more so I'll be playtesting them with my regular group as part of our ongoing campaign.

I'd like to have another go at a modern-ish Cthulhu flavoured campaign (set sometime in the 1960s to 80s). Collected a lot of material for it but not really sure what tone to go for this time around. Wavering between something like Kim Newman's Diogenes Club, yet more Callan-esque grimness or possibly something in between.

I’ve been struggling with a long covid/heavy workload combo but, with the end of my contract hoving into view, I’m consoling myself over the plummet in income with the thought I can, at least, finally finish off The Troubleshooters campaign I was running.

I'm 'planning' a heist-laden exploration of Warren and the rest of the Rin Sector by an ex-syndicate Scoundrel and an old Imperial Special Forces op-turned-Muscle, as the crew of the Stardancer in a Scum and Villainy game where we have very much scribbled the Star Wars numbers back onto the setting, where the designers had filed them off!

I'm also planning a tour of the very best sites of Arthurian lore as a Liminal crew undertake a quest for not one, but two lost items with the degeneration of Britain into a modern Wasteland playing out as a backdrop.

I'd like to explore:

The Forgotten Realms
Glorantha
Earthdawn
Talislanta
Symbaroum
Midgard
The Young Kingdoms
Charted Space
Star Wars
Fading Suns
Twilight Imperium
Star Trek
Gwenthia
Earth, recently

Recently, I tried to run an ill-fated Neverwinter campaign for 5e, but I always struggle with running D&D, and it ended prematurely. I have no love for Glorantha, and I think my days of exploring the Young Kingdoms is probably behind me. Where I would like to explore next is Eternia, the home of The Masters of the Universe.

My list is so nostalgic. However, they are all great places to tell stories!

I find a lot my games hark back to the past. Even when I run sci-fi it's something retro like Hostile. Has to do with getting older maybe?

Places I hope to explore further into this year:

The Grim & Perilous Empire
The Lone Lands of Eriador
Star Trek universe
The Jumpweb of Fading Suns
Charted Space
The former lands of the Weird Wizard
Talislanta
The Young Kingdoms
The Eternal Night of Lockwood

I expect some other places as we go. Top two will predominantly feature in my GMing. More in this thread. 😀

Poseidon the water world (I'm still waiting for the new edition of Blue Planet to arrive in dead tree format).

The "Death Spiral" ecological collapse future of Ecopunk 2044. I may swipe some bits from the Hack the Planet setting to add to this setting. Both are 'hopepunk': kind of depressing post-climate collapse cyberpunk settings, but you get to strike back at the [insert swearword of your choice] whose greed caused it all. (Actual science will also be inserted into my version if I run this. Like less ice = more rain = smaller deserts).

I still want to run the 'Battlestar Galactica meets Invasion of the Bodysnatchers' setting which is The Last Fleet.

And I had so much fun at Revelation playing Monster of the Week's fringe science expansion that I now have a hankering to do some sort of Doomwatch meets Scooby Doo setting.

And I still want to run a Star Cops game, based on the TV series and Big Finish audio dramas.
And the Terminator, making it more like the Sarah Connor Chronicles.
And maybe Hunter the Reckoning.

Since it is not my turn to GM in any of the groups I am currently in, none of these plans are going anywhere.

I keep trying to get a Terminator game off the ground, but I haven't had much luck yet.

Places I hope to explore further into this year:

For my birthday, I've been gifted a bunch of Forbidden Lands PDFs. I may have to delve into that world, as from reading up on the setting, it sounds pretty awesome.

Casting the Runes
I'd really like to try this, as a one off?

Liminal crew
I hope it's forming..

Neverwinter campaign for 5e
Not been there, really would like to.

Talislanta
The Young Kingdoms
Yes, let's do the Timewarp again! [no idea why but I think Pang Tang is really Frankenfurter's place]

The Jumpweb of Fading Suns
Only ever been teased with this, would like a deep dive.

Poseidon the water world
Just name the date and time..

I am clearly being very consistent, or simply boring. Back in October, in a thread here at the Tavern about "Plans for 2025", I mentioned ICONS and Mutant Chronicles as the games I was aiming to run https://gamingtavern.uk/index.php?threads/game-planning-for-2025.10755/ and for which I was doing bits of prep in my spare time.

As things stand in March 2025, the ICONS thing is going well with regular group. I've also been trying to fit in a few Mutant Chronicles shots but recruitment and scheduling has been challenging and so far only one of the planned session has actually worked out.

For my regular group, when our Liminal investigation is over, I'm going to suggest Traveller (the Sky Raiders trilogy) or Slugblaster (I'm playing in Guy's game at Airecon as my prep) or Urban Shadows (gulp).

But before that, I think one of the others wants to GM something...

Things on my wishlist to run ('planning' is a stronger word than is warranted for my dabbling)

Traveller: Islands in the Rift, Into the Neutral Zone
13th Age: Eyes of the Stone Thief
Pathfinder for Savage Worlds: Curse of the Crimson Throne
Beasts & Barbarians: All the adventures I haven't run yet. Actually even the big ones only take 3-4 sessions, so maybe a series of one-shots?
D&D retroclones: Ruins of the Undercity, assorted scenarios I haven't run yet.
D&D 5E: Curse of Strahd
Night's Dark Agents - the section on Marseille would make a nice short campaign.

I'd probably convert all of 'em for SWADE, but that lot plus those I'm already running are about 20 years play time, and I may not have that long left!
