[generic] What are we running and playing? [II]

So it's a new quarter starting at RP Haven Edinburgh, and we have more 5e games than ever before. Which is nice for the D&D players, but means that the non-D&D options were just the 'one-shot table', which has in the past had a lot of OSR/weird fantasy games.

Not quite my cup of tea so I was trying to think of something that I would enjoy running and might attract players, when @sanjurotokage (having acquired the starter set at AireCon) suggested Call of Cthulhu. So I find myself preparing to run a 10-11 session Cthulhu campaign for 3 players that I don't know with an unknown level experience with CoC.

I'm hoping that none of them have much experience, because I'm planning to run Edge of Darkness and two sequels (Beyond the Edge of Darkness and Stage Fright at the Playhouse) as the campaign, possibly filled out with some one shots if needed.

Has anyone run these scenarios? Any tips?

I am hoping to join a 2300 campaign soon.

The fortnightly Thursday group has decided upon Hunter the Reckoning for our next game, so I am reading the Lines Drawn in Blood campaign book. And trying to remember the WoD 5th ed system. Hunter 5e seems to be the simplest iteration of the WoD system so far...

Playing STA 2e, Liminal and 2300

Playing Shadow of the Weird Wizard, Mongoose Traveller 2e, Warhammer Fantasy 4e, STA 2e, Fading Suns 4e.

I know that Fantasy Craft is to be added and maybe a few more.

Still playing Star Trek (Klingons) and Star Wars (5e). Just started 2300 (the Bayern campaign). About to begin a Hunter the Reckoning mini campaign.

WOW! I never throught I'd know someone who'd play that - tell us more when it happens!

Fantasy Craft is high on a GMs list and I will play and see what all the D20 but done better/different fuss is about. I shall report back

Going well?

Shadow of the Weird Wizard is a super fun D20 high fantasy hokum game. The PC advancement options are completely felxible and opena nd fun to choose your three paths over 10 levels. Although the choice is wide open, it is constructed to be super easy to do, so sort of the best of both worlds. We are playing a level a session, with 10 main play sessions, so we will get a fast view of the progression.

Our campaign is a super roleplay heavy chatty game, and SotWW is a high fantasy combat game, with everything honed for combat encounters. So, although the sessions are super fun, we have recognised that they aren't the best showcase for the mechanics and options for PCs.
