Finished it last night.

Nice post - like you, I'm the same age as the kids so it resonated. Those commitments are a thing in a moment of time, and things change. But it left the characters involved on a high note.
 
I hadn't realised until the graduation year was mentioned that they must all have been the same age as me (I would have been 18 in '89). I can get on board with commitments made genuinely but that fell by the wayside. When I left town in '90 to join the RAF I had the best intentions of keeping in touch. And I did for a couple of years but then I got married in '92 and the visits back to Dundee became fewer. I know where a couple of the guys I gamed with are (one is now in the Shetlands and the other a village in Aberdeenshire) but aren't really in contact with them.
