The Bargain Bookstore

Virtually the complete Valdemar series (37 titles out of 39) published by DAW is available on Humble Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/...mercedeslackeyvaldemarandbeyonddaw_bookbundle

There's a couple of the latest novels missing: The Founding of Valdemar trilogy, and none of the short story collections are included (probably because they are multi-author).

For less than £15, I reckon it's a bargain even though I had 3 of the omnibuses when they were 99p on Amazon.

Note that you will need a Kobo account to redeem them; a Kobo.co.uk account is fine even though DAW books are geo-restricted (UK editions are Gollancz or Titan Books). There's no direct download link as with most bundles.

MaddAddam
Margaret Atwood

The final volume in the extraordinary speculative fiction trilogy - a decade in the making - from one of the greatest writers in the English language today

Indeed the first two also seem to be 99p.
She seems to be the SF author that no-one thinks of as SF but her track record is impressive. Obviously Handmaiden's Tale but many others.

All the usual places.

She denies she writes SF and had a low key row with Ursula K LeGuin over it.

I suppose you could call it the MaddAddam trilogy techno fiction or something - the science and tech (and social structures and conventions) are current, but the applications are fictional.
In any case, it's a great series. I started reading with my other half in in late 2019, finished it in 2021 :O

The publisher says "speculative fiction", which as we know is SF.

From the Gizmodo article:

So perhaps the breakdown is as follows: could happen (speculative fiction), couldn't happen yet (science fiction), could never happen at all (fantasy).

New Humble Book Bundle up: Seanan Maguire urban fantasy. It covers her October Daye and Incryptid series.

It’s another redeem via Kobo offering, which is good because the UK ebook editions are at least 2 behind on October Daye. It also looks like it includes some of the novellas & short stories that were released with the US editions. It’s not such a good bargain for me as I got most of the October Dayes when they were up for the series award at the Dublin Worldcon.

Final tally: 4 October Daye (13-15 and a non-series) and all 10 Incryptids are new to my Kobo. I had 1-12 from the Hugos, but it’s useful having them in my Kobo library because they were sent via NetGalley and the links have now expired (I had dowloaded them needless to say). The first 5 Incryptids I have in paperback but I can now put them in the Oxfam pile.

I can recommend these wholeheartedly. October Daye is fairly traditional urban fantasy - she’s a half-breed fae. Incryptid is more X-Files territory focussing on cryptozoology - huge fun.

Sounds good.
Now, this or Malazan?

No I don't, shied away from all of that extra ADE workload on Calibre, but I have now checked it out and it looks manageable.

Yes, I happen to have a Kindle and have discoverd that "The Send to Kindle service now automatically converts ePub files to Amazon's proprietary format."

Aargh, do I buy them all?!

They are very good, but I ground to a halt after 4 over ten years ago, arrive there was a sudden setting shift and it threw me.
Maybe just grab the smaller offer?
@Maddz is helping me work out how to get the Seanan Maguire books into my Kindle since the send to Kindle option isn't there for that bundle.
