• The Tavern needs to be a safe place and comply with the law. In the UK the OSA requires us to know the age of our members and posters, and yet the UK Govt. has not provided a method to do this that is affordable to small voluntary BBS like ours. To that end, all members are safe and secure, we know you must be adults by now. However if you wish to join as a member, please contact us using the form at the [very] bottom of the page and we shall do a one to one verifiaction.

TavernCon TavernCon: 21-23 November 2025

Guvnor

The Guvnor
Staff member
I am pleased to announce the return of the TavernCon for 2025.

Born, as so many online gatherings were, during the Black Death in 1348 when the Bishop of Bath and Wells and the Archbishop of York convocated the high priesthood of Mithras together to continue their -99D&D [Divine and Deified -99, the pure light box edition, the one without kenders] campaign using their holy Palantirs.. screech.. Big Terry Gilliam Foot from Monty Python stomps down on all this foolishness and a monastic hand crosses it all out.

As before, this is a great way for Tavern folk and wider to meet up with each other online, especially for those that never get to the same cons or who are less able to get to such events.

The dates will be: 21-23 November 2025!

The timings will be [probably] 10:00-13:00, 14:30-1830, 19:30-23:30 and a 00:30-04:30 slot for those in the Americas plus those in Europe or Africa able to stay up*.
The nice feature of such an online con is that you can play in as many or few slots as you want, and we can be somewhat relaxed if someone wants to run a long slot so beloved of some people and say, for example: 10:00-18:30 with appropriate breaks.
* Anyone from Asia or Australasia needs to speak up if they want a 05:30 to 09:30 slot.

The signup and games platform will be setup and announced by @First Age in the next months.

Safety tools and polite non harassing behaviours are encouraged but as this is an online event with no defined platform choice, we leave that enforcement to the GM and the players. It is ok to eject a player from a game if they exhibit behaviours that are not in line with the style the GM set out in advance: therefore it is important that the GM agrees those behaviours and any lines/veils in advance. We expect all games to allow players who need to leave to do so, preferably with informing the GM: we suggest that the GM plans for potential drop outs and builds in some role/niche cover for such an eventuality.
Here are some resources: https://ttrpgsafetytoolkit.com/ and an example Campaign Safety & Consent Checklist:
Recruitment of new Tavern members that we can validate as adults is a feature of the Con we would like to promote. If you, as a GM or player, feel a person would fit in well at the Tavern and you have seen them and are confident they are an adult then please do ask them if they would like to become a member here, refer them to myself @Guvnor or @Dom at the Tavern Discord Server: https://discord.gg/kXm7sGwh3b

Pitch your games here and also at the TavernCon channel on Discord: https://discord.gg/ecdu4kJ7Wz

I shall have a think about what system I can use to run something as "theatre of the mind".

I will do the pitch just to put a time which may be Sunday morning.

Star Cops: The Sudden Stop at the End

Premise:
As officers recently assigned to the International Space Police Force you would expect to meet your commander and have a debriefing before being assigned to your positions. It turns out that you are immediately directed to the space station Charles de Gaulle to investigate a report by a independent salvage shuttle that they think they hit someone and also to find out why the Star Cop there has not checked in.

This is a fan play-test of a potential police procedural, investigative game in the near future, a fan-made inspired adventure based of the tv and audio show Star Cops

System
: Basic Roleplay (BRP), D100

Tags: Playtest, police procedural, investigation, near future, unofficial

Player Numbers: min 2; max 4

Sign-up and opening game submission will be next week, so get your thinking caps on. :-)

My first thought is to run Mutant Chronicles using Savage Worlds. I've got a few one-shots for it, some which have worked well in the past, others I've not had the opportunity to run yet.

!!!REMOVED FROM THE SCHEDULE!!!

My game for Tavern-Con:

Dad's Army: The Treasure Hunt
A Fate Game for up to 5 players

Premise: A rumour spreads that smugglers once hid treasure under Walmington-on-Sea. When a map surfaces, Captain Mainwaring sees this as a chance for the platoon to prove their worth. Unfortunately, Hodges and his ARP Wardens form a rival treasure-hunting team. To complicate matters, Major-General Fullard is due anytime to inspect Mainwaring's troops! The race is on: who will find the treasure first?

System: Fate Core

There are even terrible events transpiring at the Castle of the
Kite, player-knights are confronted with a difficult moral choice, as the object of their quest is held by an unworthy man who is also their host. What will your knights do?
5 players [A Cult of Chaos demo game]
Safety tags: 18+: Cannibalism, child cruelty, incest, murder, warlordism. Lines and Veils, pre game Safety questionnaire, Open Table, X card.

I'm up for this.

Has sign up started? If yes, on what platform?

Due to Real Life stuff I probably won't be able to GM, but might still manage to play in a couple of sessions.

It's all happening! Looks like I need to formalise my game pitch sooner than planned.

For TavernCon I plan to run two Mutant Chronicles adventures using the Savage Worlds system. Pregenerated characters will be provided. No experience with either the setting or the system required. Note: The adventures I've scheduled on Friday at 19:30 and Saturday at 19:30 are not directly connected. You choose to play in one, both or, of course, neither.

What is Mutant Chronicles?
Mutant Chronicles is a dieselpunk, techno-fantasy roleplaying game that mixes elements from horror, space opera and cyberpunk genres. In this setting, humanity has spread across the solar system (having trashed the Earth centuries ago) and is governed by a set of five rival corporations. The fighting between corporations only stopped, or perhaps just paused, when an incident unleashes transdimensional demons, known as The Dark Legion into our universe.

In this adventure the players will all be members of the Doomwatch, an eclectic, elite team composed of experts from all the different corporations tasked with finding and destroying the Dark Legion in whatever form it takes. This adventure will feature a mixture of action, investigation, social interaction and hopefully a few good laughs along the way. You can find more info on Wikipedia at the link below, but note that the game itself will not be lore heavy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutant_Chronicles).

What is Savage Worlds?
Savage Worlds is a popular, action-orientated roleplaying game that has been around for a while. We'll be sticking just to the basics which are easy to learn. There is a great summary of the system in comic book form at this link if anyone needs it. (https://www.uptofourplayers.com/wp-content/uploads/Savage-Worlds-Rules-by-Up-to-Four-Players.pdf)

How We’ll Do Stuff
We will use Roll20 for the dice, character sheet macros, initiative cards and for status markers, just don't expect detailed maps or custom tokens. No video.

TavernCon is open to all on this forum and you would be most welcome to register to play and even offer a game! It's all free and online.

Your participation can be anything from one game, or a full weekend, signing up and running as many games as possible!

We like to run the event each year to provide an opportunity to actually meet up, albeit virtually, and talk together over some hot RPG action.

Hope to see you there. :)

Yes please!!

The Eye of J'Karaa

Heroic Fantasy 2e

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/461381/heroic-fantasy-2nd-edition

From your base in the port city of Carse, trading hub of the Far Coast, your heroes have gained knowledge of a valuable artifact to be found in the ruined city of Hesgith, in a temple of Adangul, a dead god of the cursed Helux Dynasty.

This artifact, the Eye of J’karaa, is said to be a key to a greater mystery and that there are many that seek it. So, it is valuable then...

Regarding inviting non-forum members to the TavernCon, what is the process?

I can mention TavernCon to them and direct them to this thread. If they are interested how do I arrange an invitation to the forum?
