Other Games Sell me on .. Outgunned

So, it's lovely, but no-one is running it and I just don't know why it's great. Sell me on it.

It’s in my to-run pile for a con but just below the level that means it’s likely to happen quickly. Can’t really sell you any more than that and the reviews I shared previously on my blog.

Skimmed the beta of the Supers book yesterday and that looks great too.

I have all the Outgunned books. It's a great little system, once you get your head around it. Plus the "Flicks" allow you to pretty much play any film or television genre.

I like Outgunned but I find it competes for my attention with Savage Worlds and the latter, for better or worse, has a healthy lead start which creates its own momentum.

But here's the thought. What got me, in the end, to properly learn the Savage Worlds system (I still forget stuff when I am running it, but I getting there) isn't that I felt the need to learn a new system or wanted to roll different dice. I decided to learn Savage Worlds because I want to run Day After Ragnarok, Mutant Chronicles, maybe even Rifts (which I did) or Deadlands Noir (someday, perhaps) among several other settings.

I think Outgunned's Action Flics approach is great if one is already a fan of Outgunned's system and is looking for ways to expand on it, but I don't think they are, in themselves, something that will draw to the game, in the way that Flash Gordon, Rippers or Neccessary might draw someone to Savage Worlds.

I picked up the PDF in a bundle but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I think Polar Blues hits the nail on the head for me though in that it's competing with Savage Worlds. It's the same reason other pulp games (like Dicey Tales and Amazing Adventures have fallen by the wayside for me).

I think I may have my answer. My inclination has been the same. I have it all like we all do, but whenever I think of it, my mind turns to SWADE and how much I want to go back there.
