Having cleared over a hundred registration attempts by spammers over the last 10 days I am closing user registration for a while.
This is temporary.
 
Yeah, I must have done something similar. The rate was ridiculous.
 
We will find a solution.
Perhaps personal invitation by letter only? 😉😉
 
We open registration for an hour at midnight on a blue supermoon?
 
We only accept registered users who have a time machine and timey-wimey back to 1925 and arrange for a Wells Fargo agent to meet me on a windswept rainy day and hand me a usb stick with a crypto signed passkey.
 
But seriously -- how shall we manage this going forward?

Wasn't there a William Gibson novel where sensitive data was only sent by bike courier because nobody could trust anything digital?

Given the lead times involved, requests submitted by snail mail might actually work, it normally only takes a couple of days. Plus one could credibly claim not to have received them if that seemed... expedient...
 
Can we auto moderate new people’s posting and PM privileges?
 
Well we can't actually check any one's age right now... So it's not that simple.
 
Well, you could always set up some kind of automated Q&A which should weed out most (if not all) bots, and then require an email request to set up a log-in.

I'm thinking along the lines of a series of images which is a set of covers (SFF books/RPG/board games) dating back 20 years+, and asking people to select which of those aren't RPG-related... And give them 1 minute to answer each one (or 30 secs if you feel nasty).
