Let's talk about the new Runequest. I have skimmed the rules and liked what I saw. I heard great stuff from the tournament at Chaosium Con and a blurry picture of the cover.
However -- I would like to know more. @Simon Bray?

Is the new Runequest conceived to primarily be another Gloranthan d100 game, or is it a fantasy roleplaying game with accessible hooks for many settings?

So my hands are a bit tied by the NDA I’ve signed. I know main things that you heard from Chaosiumcon is that the system is going to run parallel to RuneQuest Glorantha in the same way as Pulp Cthulhu works for CoC. It is not intended as a replacement for RQG.
It’s got a more localised setting than RQG. It’s more about exploration, dungeon crawling and a return to the early days of RQ. It uses less skills than RQG. It uses a new system for combat instead of strike ranks. It’s still in early days, it’s just had a revised version released a few days before the con.
I think that like RQ/BRP you could use it for other settings.
I can’t say more than that really. I enjoyed running it at the Con and I’ve run a playtest with my gamers online. If you sign the NDA I might be able to run you a one off session once I’ve read version 2.0.

For me I want a game that’s quick to pick up, quick to do Chargen and gives a good Gloranthan punch. I really like RQG and p lm at it weekly, but man it needs less skills and they really needed to do away with SR!

As Simon says, I think how much people can discuss outside of the locked Discord channels is limited. What I’ve skimmed through so far looks interesting.

I meant to add that I would actually welcome discussion about the new version, but do worry that doing so would incur the wrath of <insert thematically appropriate $deity> 🙁

Now if you will excuse me, I must try and find my copies of the Pavis and Big Rubble box sets… 😀

If you watch the video that's been uploaded on utoob of the Runequest talk that took place at Chaosium Con UK a couple of weeks ago, and listen carefully (at the 21mn mark), you may hear that Strike Ranks are out, and that phases within combat rounds are in.
I signed an NDA as well, so I can't go further than this, however, I will say that my group was a bit underwhelmed by the new rules, including our GM.

Concentrating on Pavis and Big Rubble is brilliant though, and a no brainer.

I might either use this new version as a treasure trove of stealable BRP elements, or even use as the base for a fantasy game, or make it my way back in to Glorantha. Or both.

RQ:G never really quite did it for me.

They promise plenty of adventures (sort of like what's being done for CoC), and smaller books. In other words, plenty of material to use as is, or get inspired by.

They really seem to be going all in with Runequest (adventures, virtual tokens, minis), in a way that didn't happen with RQG, which, admittedly, wasn't their plan.

Since the RQ tournament at Chaosium was using the new rules I thought more might be in the public domain - but of course the NDA still restricts those that signed it.

So I think I will thank everyone and close the thread.
