Introduce Yourself

Hi All, thank you for inviting me.

My name is Will, I am a Big TTRPG fan, GM, and Actual play consumer, primarily D&D, I started early when my Dad introduced me around 10 years old to 1st edition. And I rekindled my love of the game in 2016 through friends with 5e. It was an essential outlet and contact point for me through the pandemic of which I am very grateful.

I now mainly run 5e games in person and sometimes online. I'm the type of GM who will over-prepare, prepping notes on 100 NPCs you will never meet, automate and immerse players in a world with far too much detail if given a chance.

I'm also a keen tinkerer coder and maker, with 3d printing I print and paint DND minis monsters and terrain for my games. Online games I run on Foundry VTT, and for worldbuilding use Microscope RPG and Obsidian MD.

I run and play in some private games (weekly) as well as being a regular GM at the People DND Sundays alongside @Guvnor. I also built and admin their Discord server. I mainly play in Westmarches campaigns and am itching to run a standard classic adventure or two.

If you want to go down a rabbit hole with me I am willing to talk all things Critical Role and Dimension 20. I am fully up to date with both. I am also a massive fan of Dark Dice, and I am always looking for more actual play podcasts and shows to watch.

Personally, I'm moving away from WOTC settings and content, and advocate 3rd party writers and content providers.

I'm additionally interested in running and playing Cairn, Troika, Knave and other OSR systems and settings like Ultra Violet Grasslands and Acid Death Fantasy. And always open-minded to try something different.

I am a firm believer in the therapeutic benefits of TTRPGs both socially and psychologically and will likely die on that hill.

I have made many friends through the hobby and look forward to making more here.

Hi, all!

Long time gamer here (I think I started back with the Holmes "Blue Book" boxed set) back in 1980. Played dozens or more different games over the years, before sort of moving away from the hobby for awhile 15 or so years ago. Sort of coming back to it now, though often more as a collector and reader than a player. Though I'd love to get back into an actual game at some point, work and life often get in the way.

Mostly what I'm really interested in right now is hearkening back to my intro to the hobby. I've been going back to the original "booklets" and 1e AD&D, and looking at them from something of an historical perspective. IE: Trying to understand why the designers made some of the decisions they did, and how to play the games in the ways they seemed to have intended.

Though I'm from the USA (although my family did live outside of London for a few years when I was little), a lot of my formative time as a gamer came with a very "British-style" attitude. EG: White Dwarf was my hobby magazine of choice for many years, and I never really gelled much with Dragon, etc.

Happy to meet you all, and looking forward to being part of the forum.

Welcome and well met! Albeit a bit belatedly.
