• The Tavern needs to be a safe place and comply with the law. In the UK the OSA requires us to know the age of our members and posters, and yet the UK Govt. has not provided a method to do this that is affordable to small voluntary BBS like ours. To that end, all members are safe and secure, we know you must be adults by now. However if you wish to join as a member, please contact us using the form at the [very] bottom of the page and we shall do a one to one verifiaction.

Furnace Furnace XX: 11-12 October 2025

First Age

D&D h@ck3r and Hopepunk
Furnace XX will be on the weekend of 11-12 October 2025.

Join us for our twentieth year, a celebration of friendship and our games!

Book your accommodation at the Garrison now, and event registration will open next year.

Stay close to our channels.

Registration for Furnace 20 will open soon. It's going to be a special one as we celebrate our twentieth year. I hope you can all join us and run some games!

To facilitate a bumper convention, we would like to try something different by opening up a new space for us to game in. The Restaurant will be our main hub with eight good sized circular gaming tables, the convention welcome desk, and our traders.

Upstairs we will continue to have our usual space in the Garrison Suite, with four cell rooms and three further gaming tables. This will increase our table count from the usual 12 up to 15. We also have the option of expanding further, by also hiring the Cell and Armoury rooms, should we need to.

The Hotel is offering a tailored menu for Saturday Lunch and Dinner. Acknowledging some of the logistical problems of the past, this will be available for you to book online in advance of the convention, with payment on the Saturday morning (or even the Friday night).

More information to come as we ready for a great weekend and celebration of our time together.

Start thinking what you games you are going to run, as game submission is also about to open!

We are now up to 81 attendees and, games allowing, will have room for about 10 more sign-ups. If you were holding back, then I would encourage you to register soon. It's going to be a great weekend of games for our regulars, returners, and newbies.

As you may know, we are experimenting for this big anniversary, by trying a new main room of 8 good sized circular tables in the restaurant area.

Watch this space for information on some extras we have planned as part of the celebration!

Furnace Registrations have re-opened for a short while, to enable a last few people to book in for our XX convention. We have play space for up to 100, and we are currently at 94 booked, so sign up now(ish) if you would like to join us.

Two tables will be available in the Cell. We are conscious that some of you have yet to submit your games, so look forward to seeing them soon.

Cheers!

We’ve closed registration again. There’s an official waiting list if you didn’t get in. Usually we see a number of drop outs, so don’t lose hope.

I'm slightly thrilled that the Bigger Badder Bolder anniversary Furnace has drawn so many people to the flame.
Should be excellent - I know quite a few familiar old faces are coming back.

Bereft in Deadly Bloom Game.png
My Bereft in Deadly Bloom game in action!
At Vampire Games Day 2025 in Derby.

These are the details for my two Fria Ligan games I am running at Furnace XX.
The first game on Saturday morning is my Vaesen RPG game called “Bereft in Deadly Bloom” and is an actual vampyre hunt set in the frozen Arctic Circle as the Investigators have to locate an eminent Swedish scientist who’s last letter indicates the presence of an ancient vampyre. This has only been run once before earlier this year at the Inaugural Vampire Game Day in Derby as part of the Derby Dracula celebrations in the city.

Alien Remus Players.png
The seven players at my Alien Remus game at UK Games Expo 2025.

My second game running during Saturday afternoon is only a slight change of pace as it is an Alien RPG called “Alien Remus”, that has only been run once before earlier this year at UK Games Expo (though it is also being ran at The Owlbear and Wizards Staff in September).
It is an unofficial sequel to Alien Romulus and involves the crew and passengers of a supply vessel ordered to investigate the wreckage, and the escaping Remus module, of the Renaissance station crashing into the ice rings of Jackson Star.
There are eight player characters, all with agendas and grudges, so it will not be a happy team, especially when there’s more than their bonus situation up as stakes!

“Vaesen - Bereft in Deadly Bloom”
Vaesen RPG
Saturday Morning Slot
For up to six players. New players welcome!

As members of a secret society you have been tasked to investigate the current lack of communication with the astronomer Hugo Gyldén who is at his celestial observatory deep in the arctic circle.
Time is of the essence as the last communication from Gyldén, accompanied by
Purple Saxifrage flowers, mentioned a Lord Ruthven. Information in the files deep in your occult library speculates Ruthven is a 100 year old vampyre!

“Alien Remus”
Alien RPG
Saturday Afternoon Slot
For up to eight players. Newbies welcome!

Sequel to Alien Romulus
Jackson Star - a typical “shake & bake” colony, just seems more miserable, isolated and our supply runs are long and monotonous.
We get a bleep, a high-priority message to rescue a module launched from a space station crashing through the rings of the planet!
I hope the bonus situation still holds as this Remus Module is totally fragged before we even get there!

Dear all

The majority of games details are now complete for Furnace XX, and so GM pre-booking can begin (player pre-booking will begin when GM pre-booking is complete). The timetable is available at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mfbZi1ryQTODTYa_Jk1bKLqxr-kz5-lrqlbac28OI-o/edit?usp=sharing

For those of you unfamiliar with the process, please go to the timetable and to the tab GM pre-bookings. GMs can pre-book up to the number of games they are playing, indicated in the column No. of pre-bookings. Due to the popularity of some games, I recommend putting in 3 or 4 choices in ranked order. Please see the example line for 'John Smith' in yellow at the top of the page. Please only put in your GM choices. When Player Pre-bookings open, you will know what your GM pre-bookings are and you can fill in your other choices on another sheet.

The deadline for completing your GM pre-booking details in Sunday 7 September at 12:00.

Questions

Q1. I'm running a double slot game, does that let me get one pre-booking or two?
A1. Two.

Q1a. I want to pre-book a double slot game, does that count as one pre-booking or two?
A1a. One. (don't come at me, it's how it works)

Q2. How do you assign games to people given some might be super popular?
A2. A randomiser is deployed for each slot. So you may be randomised as 1 for one slot, and get your first choice game, and 50 in another slot and only get your third choice game. Only half the places in a game can be snapped up by GMs, so a six player game can only have 3 GM pre-booked places.

Q3. Why is my name in red?
A3. Because you haven't provided all your game details yet - you can't pre-book until you do.

Q4. What happens if I don't fill in my pre-book choices by the 7 September deadline?
A4. I allocate games to those who have provided their choices and you have to take your chances in the Player Pre-bookings.

Q5. But I didn't see this email because I'm on holiday/my dog died/I've been super busy at work!
A5. This is being emailed and cross-posted to FB and Discord. Shush.

Q6. I'll only be around whilst I'm GMing / I don't intend to play anything.
A6. Please indicate this by writing in the Notes column.

Clock's ticking - go!

Elaine
