[watching] Doctor Who

Rumours being reported by The Sun "newspaper" this morning about the series being cancelled are not true. It seems the paper has obviously being trawling fan forums (again) in a effort to report rumours and speculation as "news". Whereas The Mirror, which seems to have a better track record on reporting Doctor Who related news, contradicts The Sun.

"Doctor Who remains one of the most watched programmes on iPlayer and was a top 5 series on Disney+ globally every week it aired, as well as being the BBC’s top drama for under 35’s this year making it one of the biggest programmes for the demographic across all streamers and broadcasters."
 
I've been rewatching Season 7 of Doctor Who, broadcast in 1970, on Blu Ray, whilst watching Doomwatch for the very first time on Talking Pictures TV. It's remarkable how similar in tone and storytelling Doomwatch and early 1970s Doctor Who are. At this point, the Doctor is stuck on Earth, working with UNIT. Both UNIT and Doomwatch are very similar originations, albeit one is military based and the other is purely scientific based. However, the threats Doomwatch face could easily be transplanted into Doctor Who.

My thoughts on the first two episodes of the new series:

I think it was a better start to last year, but the story was basically RTD by numbers. I really liked Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, as she practically stole the show. Can we have more the polish droid please? I score the episode 7 out 10.

Golly, I thought Lux was really, really good. I felt the episode was almost on par with The Giggle. Lux aka Mr Ring-a-Ding was a fantastic villain, well imagined and brilliantly brought to life. The setting was good too, with a light sprinkling of the social/political message. At first, I felt that the part with the fans was off-putting - but at the end, with the theme of the gods, I got this feeling that they may well be the Gods of Ragnarök returned. I score Lux 8.5/10.
