Boardgames - What have you played recently?

Not geopolitical but I am thinking about getting Littoral Commander which is a modern war game used by the US Marine as a training aid. They are currently working on a new version which models the war in Ukraine.

Hegemonic Projects next game is going to be about geopolitics - I wonder what time period it will be modelled after?

Have you seen the latest People Make Games video, where Quinns gets tied in knots around the ethical issues of wargaming simulations used by the military? It's long, but good.

Still looked recoverable on the board but the VP track says otherwise…

Recently playing Panzer by GMT, when news came on: Russians fighting near Kursk.

Very weird feeling especially as Ukrainians had German built tanks.

Tonight I played Twilight Struggle for the first time. My buddy (who is a bigger board game fan than me) had played it before but not in the last few years. He was a little rusty and I was learning as we go. I held him for a fair chunk of the game (he said he had never had one run that long before) but in the end I conceded as we had gotten to 11pm and he was far ahead of me. I might have made it to the 10th turn but I don’t think I could have pulled back the VP deficiency.

A really fun game, quite different to what we normally play. And quite relevant given the return to bit of the Cold War in geopolitics.
I like the look of this, and know it's well regarded on boardgamegeek. But ask, if 1 player is losing badly, can he increase , or is it decrease defcon so war starts and no one wins?

Thank you

Whoever causes nuclear war loses 🙂

You can certainly pull back from point deficits. Next time I play I will have a much better understanding of how scoring works, which is always key.

Finally got Runewars to the table - it was great fun

Very impressive for a game that is about 15 years old. I have no idea why FFG decided to discontinue it.
