To keep the pro blogger and anti blogger factions from going to war.. [oh didn't you know?] the blogs will not, should not, appear in New Posts and you shall have to here deliberately. [There may be exceptions.]

We'll see how that works, but if I don't think it adds value I shall change back to how it was.

Please state your views CALMLY!

As I'm happy for people to blog and express themselves, I would prefer not to see them under New Posts. It's only because I feel the Tavern should be a place for discussing gaming ideas and you cannot really engage with a blog post.

@Nathan whilst I understand and respect your opinion, I notice that we have seen many very interesting and lively threads triggered by a forum post. Most blogs here are from people who are active members and can and do respond.

I would agree with you. However, I haven't seen many people engaging with blog posts on here.

I feel like I probably do engage with blog posts here, especially those that are gaming related. I often like Guy's and Dom's detailed posts and like to respond. I wouldn't see many of these blogs were they not syndicated here.

I like having the blog posts here, although I'm never certain if replying to them is the appropriate thing to do.

My objection to having them appear in the new posts list is that there isn't the same sense of urgency about a blog post as there is to a post in a conversation you are having or following. Does that make sense?

As a forum participant, I want new and interesting content to show up in the new posts thread, regardless of provenance, because that’s mainly how I explore new content.

As one of the bloggers, I definitely welcome comments. If fact, I had several quite good comments on a recent entry that I incorporated into a later edit. I don’t know if those people would have found the blog entry if it didn’t appear in new posts, but find it they did, and I was happy they were moved to comment.

By syndicated, do you mean commercial feeds? I'm happy to see personal blogs, but about the only commercial feed I'd want to keep an eye on is Bundle of Holding.

I'd like them to appear in New Posts - having an RSS feed here is so that it gets more readers, and so if people have to hunt around in the Blogs forum for it they might as well hunt around on the web. It's not as if New Posts is drowning in traffic so the blog feeds hide other posts, is it?

  • I'm in agreement with Guy here.
  • I use new posts to watch what's coming into the Tavern, and enjoy reading the personal blogs.
  • They reasonably often spark discussions.
That said, I'm biased on this, like @GuyMilner !

Replying is definitely appropriate - the blog owners have agreed to syndicate them. In fact, some of them are syndicated because Tavern members used to post links to the blog for discussions.

I’d been ignoring all the “blog” entries and didn’t realise this had become such an issue.

As one of them there bloggers (once the Lockdown’s over and my life resumes) I don’t care whether my blogs appear or not. Certainly I think my Convention visit reports should appear. It is - sort of - a news-based blog. Pulling it through and posting it on the new posts is appropriate and saves me writing a separate post as a forum entry (which I used to do) or - worse - physically posting the “Hey here’s the link to my new blog post” which i find embarrassing to do.

However, I’m less enamoured if I’m keeping a campaign blog which is mainly for my own reference (I find it dead easy to tap in a blog post on the bus on my way home) as I’m not sure how relevant they are to others. They are NOT written for public consumption. (In fact their appearance here was a total accident where I posted an entry by mistake in my Convention blog and people asked to see the rest.)

As a reader/forum participant, most blogs don’t interest me so I happily just scroll past and ignore them. Occasionally one might have something of interest to me so I’m glad to have it there.

If I’m honest - and I’m sorry if I’m un-British in naming names - I think this wouldn’t be a issue if it weren’t for the machine that is Pookie. I love the guy and his work is brillliant but I sometimes have to scroll past several of his entries before I find something else to ignore.

So I voted for keep ‘em in The New Posts. They’re easily ignored and I don’t mind them.

If more subtlety is possible, I wouldn’t mind an edited selection. We could all give our opinions about which blogs are appropriate for listing in “new posts” and which aren’t but I’d trust the moderators.

Ok. Thanks to all for input.
Blogs will be listed on New Posts again.
We shall place @pookie great reviews on a forum of their own and not place them on New Posts.
We shall review later in the year, especially if people are missing Pookie reviews.
